Web Security: How does one ensure a secure transmission over the World Wide Web?

چکیده
Data sent over the Internet is not that secure at all if it is not encrypted. When sending an email, the email can be observed from the source computer, all the way to its destination. The same applies when browsing web pages, chatting, and authenticating accounts through passwords; all these can be intercepted. Consequently, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and all other hops across the Internet can monitor transactions performed through the World Wide Web (WWW).

We show how to use Kerberos to enable its clients to interact securely with non-Kerberized World Wide Web servers. That is, our protocol does not require that the Web server be a member of a Kerberos realm, and also does not rely on time-synchronization between the participants. In our protocol, the Kerberos client uses the Web server's public-key certi cate to gain cryptographic credentials th...

The explosive growth witnessed in the Internet over the last few years has encouraged companies to connect to it and to offer services to their customers over it. Concerns about security are holding them back from all but the most restrictive connectivity. The massive and automated access to Web resources through robots has made it essential for Web service providers to make some conclusion about whether the "user" is a human or a robot. A Human Interaction Proof (HIP) like Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) offers a way to make such a distinction. CAPTCHA is a reverse Turing test used by Web serv...
